STORAGE ACCESS

A standard Part K staircase is 900mm wide with open treads. Handrail is welded to both sides of the staircase with a top rail at 900mm and a mid rail at 500mm.

AMBULANT DISABLED ACCESS

Part M disabled access staircases have 1.2m wide enclosed treads with a nosing of a contrasting colour. A midlanding is provided after a maximum of 12 risers. The handrail has a curved profile.

GENERAL PUBLIC ACCESS

For retail environments a Part M compliant staircase must be provided. The handrail has to have no gap larger than 100mm and should not have horizontal bars so children could climb up them. Handrail can be provided in steel balustrade, decorative mesh panels or stanless steel and glass.
